Hello World!

Hello World!

Undergrad

Hello, and welcome to the Big Bad World of Concept Art, a new resource dedicated to exposing, educating, and better preparing students and young professionals for a career as a concept artist in the video game industry.

We’re here to help everyday people and artists connect and to raise the bar on awareness of this highly competitive, over crowded industry.  While there are plenty of amazing resources, websites and schools out there for you to learn from, we feel that current offerings miss the bigger picture and fail to bridge the gap between schooling, professionalism and business.  Being passionate about these things, and having the first hand experience of going through the industry, we have lovingly created this blog to answer your questions and hopefully streamline the process for you.

We are here to help serve those artists who, like us, want to better themselves, and are trying to achieve a lasting success full of positive experiences in the gaming industry.

WHO WE ARE:

Eliott Lilly is a highly sought-after concept artist who has almost a decade of experience in the video game industry. He has worked for various game studios such as id Software, Treyarch, and Activision, and he has contributed to several popular video game franchises including F.E.A.R.RageDoom, and Call of Duty. Also an educator, Lilly holds an MFA in Illustration and currently teaches introductory concept art classes to college students. When not working for clients, or  on personal projects, Lilly spends his time with his wife Kimberley, and his three legged dog, Tripod.

Hector Ruiz became an instructor after receiving his MFA from The University of Texas at Dallas. He currently teaches drawing, digital arts, and animation at the Arts and Technology Institute, but has taught students at every level, from elementary to college and beyond.  Ruiz is currently a freelance illustrator, but is looking to transition to concept art in the near future and is studying under Lilly while pursuing his goals. He lives happily with his wife Jackie and two dachshunds, Rocky and Lucy.
